This land is our land...

Postby Jon » Fri Mar 05, 2010 4:54 am

Hi all,

This was just such a beautiful set of photos, I felt compelled to share. Watch it far enough to see the effects of a heavy rain shower while down in the canyon.

I've flown over the Grand Canyon enough times but I think something like this should up there on the list of things to do before checking out of this place...

Enjoy, Jon
safe travels, JonD

Very nice indeed, the mud makes you want to wear all kind of plugs though

Excellent slide show. I would love to see the rest of it. That was the first ~60 Miles. On a two week trip I expect they go a few more miles than that in. :-)

But as was said before WOW!!!!

In case someone gets the itch to book one of these trips keep me in mind.

The 125 year waiting list has been replaced with a weighted lottery.

Outfitters have a big chunk of the launch windows and from what I hear make the trip very comfortable.

I think that one has to book this a few years out, which is good for me as I don't have the skills for some of the rapids yet.

The chairman of our department went on a raft tour in the GC a few years ago and I believe he had a 3 year wait after signing up. The raft he rode on was maybe 3 or 4 times a large as the ones shown, the thing was enormous. Looks like it takes some cajones to do it in one of those playboats.

Or you have the Big Kahunas to just get a boat, a paddle, and hit the river on your own despite the rules and regs, like Chris/Emile Hersch (who played him in the movie) did in "Into the Wild".

It appeared also, from seeing the movie and reading the book, that he'd never paddled before, just bought a boat and pulled a NIKE ad.
